Arsenal season review: Shock, surprise and celebration
A rollercoaster campaign that began with a managerial departure and ended with European silverware
And breathe. With Arsenal's improbable, historic Champions League win over Barcelona finally beginning to sink in, it’s time to look back on the season. From the turmoil of Jonas Eidevall's exit in October to the ultimate triumph on the continental stage in May, the 2024-25 season had it all.
Who would have thought back in the autumn, when Arsenal lost 5-2 away to Bayern Munich – a result sandwiched between a 0-0 draw at home to Everton and a defeat to Chelsea to effectively end any title hopes with less than a month of the season gone - that the Gunners would be rocking up to Lisbon in May to lift the most prestigious prize in women's club football? Who would have thought that they would have achieved all this while being led by a head coach who had only been permanently appointed back in January?
Domestically, this was another underwhelming season for the Gunners, even if improved results under Slegers did see a respectable second-place finish salvaged, but glory on the European stage will ensure that this is a season that will go down in the Arsenal history books.
