The new format of the Uefa Women’s Champions League began with some mouth-watering fixtures. Defending champions Arsenal started their campaign against record winners Lyon, and Spanish giants Barcelona were up against reigning German champions Bayern Munich.

The latter, owing to both teams’ incredible talent pool, was supposed to be a great watch. However, it turned into a display of power and dominance from Barcelona, who won 7-1, scoring three times in the opening 30 minutes of the game. Alexia Putellas and Esmee Brugts recorded three goal contributions, Ewa Pajor and Claudia Pina scored twice - it was a party at the Estadi Johan Cruyff.

Bayern looked out of it, and the Spanish champions were better by a country mile. So how did Pere Romeu’s side outplay Jose Barcala’s Bayern Munich?
