Bayern Munich tactical breakdown: New season, new manager, new philosophy

Jose Barcala's brand of high-octane football has arrived in Bavaria as Bayern Munich aim to mount domestic and European dominance this season

The 2025-26 season is underway, and the early previews of a team’s style of play are in. The new managers are finding their footing, establishing their ideas while understanding their squad structure.

In this new series, we will look at a new manager every month and break down their style of play, strengths and weaknesses as the season progresses.

In the first edition, we are taking a tour to Germany, where Jose Barcala was appointed the manager of Bayern Munich. Barcala joined Munich from Swiss side Servette this summer after leading them to a domestic double in his first season as the manager in 2024.

Under Barcala, Bayern are unbeaten in the Frauen Bundesliga, scoring 13 goals in five league games so far. The defending Frauen Bundesliga champions are the only side yet to concede a goal in Germany this season.
