When her sixth attempted shot trickled wide in the 57th minute against Jamaica, England forward Alessia Russo started to think it wouldn’t be her day. Her shoulders were dropping, frustration creeping.

Russo had already smashed the crossbar in the first half and failed to make the most of a couple of close-range chances. As promising as Russo’s performance was, the ball wasn’t quite under her spell.

But the opportunities kept coming in England’s 7-0 win over Jamaica on Sunday. Eventually, she headed in at the back post for England’s fifth of the evening, off of a brilliant pinpoint cross by substitute Lauren James.

Relief and yet another goal for England’s starting number nine, who is now up to 23 on the international stage in just 51 appearances and all at the age of 26.
