England’s defence of their Euros title is off to a disastrous start.

The Lionesses opened their Euro 2025 group stage with a 2-1 defeat to France at Stadion Letzigrund on Saturday night in Zurich. It is the first-ever loss England head coach Sarina Wiegman has suffered at a Euros.

France scored two goals in the space of three first half minutes to leave England shellshocked and reeling. Marie-Antoinette Katoto smashed home from close range from a cross by Delphine Cascarino in the 36th minute. Sandy Baltimore then made it 2-0 when she thrashed the ball into the top corner after a mazy dribble in the 39th minute.
