England face new pressure against the Netherlands - and they know it
Wiegman and her players have faced questions on potential Euros exit in build up to must-win clash
There have been a lot of unwanted firsts for England at Euro 2025.
The first-ever defeat for head coach Sarina Wiegman at a Euros, England’s first-ever defeat at a tournament outside of a final under Wiegman, and England’s first loss in a group stage match since 2015.
Now, of course, that brings up the lurking spectre of potentially Wiegman’s first-ever group-stage exit and England’s earliest tournament exit since 2013.
England’s hopes hang on defeating the Netherlands on Wednesday night in Zurich. A draw would likely create a stay of execution, and require Wales to conquer France and then France to beat the Netherlands. A loss would likely guarantee elimination from Euro 2025.
And so, as Sarina Wiegman, Georgia Stanway, and Alessia Russo addressed the media this week, there was a new pressure on their shoulders.
