How to watch England's make-or-break clash with the Netherlands at Euro 2025
Kick-off time and broadcast details for the Lionesses must-win fixture in Switzerland
A 2-1 defeat to France in their opening game of Euro 2025 has left England’s European Championship defence hanging in the balance.
They now come into Wednesday’s clash with the Netherlands in need of a positive result as anything but a win could have them on an early flight home.
Questions have been lingering over England’s chances of retaining their title and now Sarina Wiegman’s side face the ultimate challenge in a make-or-break game against the Euro 2017 champions.
It is the ultimate test of England’s mentality; against a side they have a favourable record against.
Wednesday (9 July) will mark the 24th meeting between England and the Netherlands, the third in a European Championship.
England won the first meeting between the two sides at a Euros back in 2009, a 2-1 extra-time victory in the semi-final. The Netherlands enacted revenge eight years later, thumping the Lionesses 3-0 on route to the Euro 2017 final.
It was Wiegman that led the Dutch to victory at their home tournament in 2017. She left to take over as head coach of England four years later, once again securing victory at a home Euros in 2022.
This fixture dates back to 1973, with the most recent instalment coming in the 2023 edition of the Uefa Nations League, with each side recording a win apiece.
Wiegman’s side will feel positive about their head-to-head record against their group-stage opponents, winning 14 of their 23 meetings. Five wins fall in favour of the Dutch, while four draws have been contested.
