England 'don't know' if Lauren James will be fit for Euro 2025 final
Sarina Wiegman has said the forward is still recovering from injury sustained in semi-final against Italy
Sarina Wiegman has said there are doubts about whether Lauren James will be ready for the Euro 2025 final against Spain on Sunday.
The Chelsea forward was forced off at half-time of England’s nail-biting 2-1 win over Italy on Tuesday.
ITV cameras showed James icing her ankle after she was replaced by Beth Mead at the start of the second half.
Wiegman said of James: “She’s still recovering. She’s doing things on the pitch and we have two more days, so we’re going to give her time.
“I don’t know yet [if she’ll be ready], but that’s what we’re going to go for – 23 players available for the game on Sunday.”
James scored both of her two Euro 2025 goals in England’s 4-0 win over the Netherlands, producing an instrumental performance to help spark the holders’ comeback after defeat in the opening game against France.
England face Spain at the St. Jakob-Park Stadium in Basel at 5pm BST on Sunday.
