Rotation gamble backfires as Aston Villa punish Manchester United

Three changes proved costly as United lost their rhythm and creativity in 1-0 defeat to Villa

Manchester United lost their first game of the season on Saturday lunchtime to Aston Villa, who snatched a 1-0 victory. A first-half goal from Miri Taylor was enough to secure the three points for the away side in a game that lacked quality in front of goal. Marc Skinner made three changes to the side that beat Brighton a week earlier, almost certainly with one eye on the remaining fixtures this month, with this match against Villa being the first of four games in 11 days for his team. Rotation is key to keeping a squad fresh, but was this approach slightly naive, with Villa already showing this season that they have goals in them?
