On Wednesday, Manchester United announced that head coach Marc Skinner had signed a new contract with the club until 2027, with an option for a further year.

It’s no secret Skinner’s tenure has been divisive and the online reaction to the news was certainly met with a lot of negative responses, but how did it get to this?
