Selina Cerci: The German forward with movement, finishing and defensive work rate
Taking a closer look at the data behind one of the Frauen Bundesliga's biggest talents
It was going so well for Hoffenheim at the start of the Frauen Bundesliga season.
They were sitting third in the table with 13 points from their first seven games, and only Wolfsburg (22) and Bayern Munich (16) had scored more non-penalty goals than the Sinsheim-based team (14).
However, since the start of the month, they’ve dropped to sixth in the table, having only picked up one win in their last three games. They have scored zero non-penalty goals in those fixtures and in their most recent game against Koln they recorded a season-low xG of 0.6.
Up until this recent blip, Hoffenheim’s impressive start had been driven by one particular player, Selina Cerci.
The German forward has been sensational for Hoffenheim since joining in 2024, winning the Torschützenkanone (top-goalscorer award) last season, alongside Wolfsburg’s Lineth Beerensteyn. The 25-year-old is back to her goalscoring best after recovering from an ACL injury she suffered in March 2022.
