Keira Walsh has been ever present at the heart of Chelsea’s midfield since her move from Barcelona. But she has so far failed to deliver the level of consistency we have grown accustomed to seeing in an England or Barcelona shirt. That is down to several factors – the most obvious being settling into a new team, system and city. But has Sonia Bompastor finally brought the best out of Walsh and unlocked an upgraded version of one of the world’s best midfielders?

Expectations surrounding Walsh’s move to Chelsea were sky high – not only because she is a world-class midfielder but because she joined the Blues from the reigning Uefa Women’s Champions League winners and arguably their biggest rivals in recent years, Barcelona. She was meant to transform the midfield, but when the Catalan side thumped the Blues 8-2 over two legs, it became apparent that this transformation was going to take longer than expected.
