The Uefa Women’s Champions League is entering its final phases. The new format served us some entertaining match-ups during the league phase and has left us with eight exciting quarter-finalists.
There are familiar clashes in the mix, including a London derby and El Clasico. There are top quality players and tactical battles all across the field, fighting for European bragging rights as we head into a decisive part of the season.
Here is a preview of the journey of the quarter-finalists and tactical battles that might decide each game.
Wolfsburg-Lyon
The juggernauts go head to head again on the European stage. These two sides have appeared in 11 of the 24 finals played in the competition, most recently meeting in the 2020 final of the competition.
Lyon have a new logo and style of play under former Barcelona manager Jonathan Giraldez. The French champions have an explosive attack with a plethora of goalscoring options. They remained unbeaten in the league phase with a +13 goal difference, scoring multiple goals in every single game this UWCL campaign.
Wolfsburg had a mixed bag of results during the league phase and had to overcome a tricky Juventus to reach the final eight. They lost to Real Madrid, Chelsea and Lyon during the league phase, conceding multiple goals in all those games. In fact, their 10 goals conceded was the second worst record among all teams that qualified for the playoffs.
