The north London suburb of North Finchley does feel like a far cry from Wales, but the two places do have one connection.

Lois Joel certainly hasn’t taken the well-trodden path towards the Welsh national team. Having come through the academies at both Arsenal and Chelsea, Joel headed out to the USA to play college football.

Fond memories were had playing with Alessia Russo, Lotte Wubben-Moy and Emily Fox at the world-renowned North Carolina Tar Heels, but Covid-19 meant Joel was forced to move back to these shores to continue her career.
