Where the Euro 2025 final will be won and lost
All eyes on the flanks as England and Spain go head-to-head once more.
After 16 teams, 30 games and a set of dramatic semi-finals, we are down to the final two at the Women’s Euros: the current European and world champions, England and Spain.
The two sides are set to meet in a final once again, following the 2023 Fifa Women’s World Cup in Australia. However, much has changed since they last faced each other in a trophy decider.
Spain sacked manager Jorge Vilda weeks after their World Cup win, amidst the Luis Rubiales scandal. Montse Tomé replaced him and led the side to a Uefa Nations League title in 2024.
England have since lost their starting goalkeeper Mary Earps, centre-back Millie Bright and playmaker Fran Kirby, but Sarina Wiegman’s side have adapted, improvised and thrived. The Dutch manager will be in her fifth consecutive major final on Sunday.
The two sides recently met in the Uefa Nations League, sharing a win apiece in their two games. Their head-to-head record over the last 10 games is quite evenly matched as well, with the Lionesses holding a slight advantage with five wins to Spain’s four.
