Exclusive: World Sevens Football to return with WSL edition in London in May
The seven-a-side tournament will be staged at the Brentford Community Stadium in the lead up to Women's FA Cup final on 31 May

The next edition of World Sevens Football, the global seven-a-side women’s football competition, is set to feature eight WSL teams and take place at London’s Brentford Community Stadium in May, The Cutback can exclusively reveal.
World Sevens Football has been running since last year and so far has staged events in Estoril, Portugal, and Fort Lauderdale in the US.
This year, the fast-paced, small-sided event will return and is set to be a WSL-only edition featuring eight of the league’s clubs.
The Cutback understands that the tournament will offer a reduced prize pool compared with last year’s $5-million (£3.7 million) pot. The London edition is set to take place the week leading up to the Women’s FA Cup final at Wembley on 31 May.
Manchester United were runners-up in the inaugural edition in Estoril, which took place a few days before the Women’s Champions League final in Lisbon. They picked up nearly $1 million in prize money losing to Bayern Munich, who claimed the top prize of $2.5 million (£1.8 million).
The debut tournament also featured Bayern Munich, Ajax, Roma, Benfica, Rosengård, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain.
World Sevens Football’s second edition featured eight teams from across the US, Mexico, Colombia and Uruguay. San Diego Wave took home the top prize of $2 million.
The Brentford Community Stadium has become a bit of a fan favourite in women’s football having hosted games during Euro 2022 and also staging the inaugural Fifa Champions Cup earlier this year.
