Sarina Wiegman is a manager who is known for her rigidity. For major tournaments, that means rhythm and consistency. To outsiders, it comes across as stubbornness.

Throughout her time as England’s head coach, Wiegman has shown she has detailed and strict plans for her system and she rarely deviates from it.

But versatility is essential in tournament football. And her side have shown that adaptability more than most in Switzerland.

Against France, England’s back four consisted of Lucy Bronze at right-back, Leah Williamson at right-sided centre-back, Alex Greenwood in the left centre-back role, and Jess Carter at left-back.
